Elizabeth Mary was born on August 26th, 1827.  Elizabeth Mary's father was Moses Wilkinson Whitehead and her mother was Jemima Farrar.  Her paternal grandparents were James Whitehead and Elizabeth Unknown; her maternal grandparents were John Farrar and Hannah Eccles. She had four sisters named Jane Farrar, Jemima Ann, Elizabeth and Hannah.  She was the third oldest of the five children.
