John was born on August 17th, 1839.  John's father was Henry Wharin and his mother was Frances Unknown.  His paternal grandparents were Jarvis Wharin and Mary Barber. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Jarvis, Henry, William, Frances and Mary.  He was the fifth oldest of the six children.  He died at just 13 days old on August 30th, 1839.
