Tebbutt was born in December 1854.  Tebbutt's father was Tebbutt Hill and his mother was Mary Maria Murrell.  His paternal grandparents were John Worthington Hill and Mary Ann Unknown; his maternal grandparents were John Murrell and Mary Collings. He had four brothers and three sisters, named John Murrell, Edwin, Barney //, Sydney, Cecilia Mary, Kate and Mary Annie.  He was the second oldest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 45 on September 20th, 1900.
