John was born on March 24th, 1716 in Kent, England.  John's father was Edward Austen and his mother was Elizabeth Vane.  His paternal grandparents were Robert Austen and Mary Oliver. He had a brother and two sisters, named Thomas, Elizabeth and Mary.  He was the second oldest of the four children.
