Joseph was born on May 3rd, 1793 in Wednesbury, Staffordshire and his christening took place on January 15th, 1794 in Mares Green Independent, West Bromwich, Staffordshire.1 2   Joseph's father was Joseph Turvey and his mother was Eleanor Horton.  His paternal grandparents were Joseph Turvey and Sarah Francis. He had two brothers and a sister, named Isaac, Thomas and Sarah.  He was the second youngest of the four children.
