Mary was born in September 1850 in Axbridge, Somerset.1   Mary's father was William Parkinson and her mother was Jane Bugler.  Her maternal grandparents were Joseph Christopher Bugler and Jane Bishop. She had a sister named Georgina.  She was the older of the two children.
