Benjamin was born in November 1809 in Bethnal Green, Middlesex and his christening took place on November 12th, 1809 in Threadneedle Street French Huguenot, London.1 2   Benjamin's father was Michel  Oblein and his mother was Marie Gerard.  His paternal grandparents were Noe Oblein and Martha Dupre. He had two brothers and a sister, named John, Michael and Marie.  He was the youngest of the four children.
