Richard was born in 1711 in Great Wishford, Wiltshire and his christening took place there on January 17th, 1711.1   Richard's father was Richard Brown and his mother was Ann.  His paternal grandparents were John Brown and Martha Clements. He had two brothers and two sisters, named John, William, Elizabeth and Mary.  He was the second oldest of the five children.
