George was born in September 1863 in Atherstone, Warwickshire.  George's father was George SHILTON and his mother was Ann ROSE.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas SHILTON and Ann HARRIS. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Henry, Joseph, Ernest, Arthur, Esther and Ann.  He was the third oldest of the seven children.
