Esther was born on October 14th, 1854 in Atherstone, Warwickshire.  Esther's father was George SHILTON and her mother was Ann ROSE.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas SHILTON and Ann HARRIS. She had five brothers and a sister, named George, Henry, Joseph, Ernest, Arthur and Ann.  She was the oldest of the seven children.
