George was born on February 7th, 1868 in Kidderminster, Worcestershire.  George's father was Robert LONG and his mother was Sarah PEARCE.  His paternal grandmother was Elizabeth LONG; his maternal grandparents were Samuel PEARCE and Ann TROWE. He had five brothers and six sisters, named William, Robert, William, John, Charles, Elizabeth, Sarah, Alice, Harriett, Annie and Annie.  He was the oldest of the twelve children. He had a half-sister named Sarah.
