Sarah was born in 1850 in Sydney NSW, Australia.1   Sarah's father was Charles Empson and her mother was Maria Austen.  Her paternal grandparents were Charles Empson and Esther ???; her maternal grandparents were James Austen and Mary Drury. She had two sisters named Louisa and Eliza.  She was the second oldest of the three children.
