Winfred was born in 1880 in High St East Side Private House Gorleston.¹ Winfred's father was Edward (Smack Owner) Harvey and her mother was Louise Elizabeth Milton. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas (Shipbuilder) Harvey and Mary Elizabeth Martin; her maternal grandparents are Joseph Milton and <Unknown>. She had three brothers and a sister, named Edward, Frederick, Frank and Lillian. She was the fourth oldest of the five children.
