Robert was born in 1853 at Twinstead Essex St John the Evangalist.  Robert's father was Samuel Winch (b Twinstead Ag Lab) and his mother was Sarah Frost (b Pebmarsh Silk Weaver & Strawplatter).  His paternal grandparents were William Winch (b WickhamStPaul) and Harriett Braybrooke (b Middleton Essex); his maternal grandfather was Edward Frost (b Alphamstone Essex) and his maternal grandmother is Rachel. He had a brother named Walter.  He was the older of the two children.
