James' father was William Simmans (LinenDraper) and his mother was Sarah Belchar. His paternal grandfather was Simmans and his paternal grandmother is <Unknown>; his maternal grandparents were Giles Belchar (Baker) and Elizabeth Mears. He had eight brothers and four sisters, named William, William, Charles, John, William, Joseph, James, William, Elizabeth, Amy, Sarah and Sarah. He died at the age of 38 on November 21st, 1853. The funeral took place on November 23rd, 1853 at St Margaret's Church Barking. He was buried on November 23rd, 1853 at St Margaret's Church Barking.²
