Rose was born about 1884 in Dover Kent. Rose's father was James Piper (Grocer & Butcher) and her mother was Jane Hannah Wren. Her paternal grandparents were Charles Piper (Blacksmith b Maidstone Kent) and Mary Ann Savin (b Ramsgate Kent). She had six brothers and four sisters, named Charles, James, Edmund, Albert, Leonard, Arthur, Eleanor, Edith, Daisy and Ada.
