Edith was born about 1867 in Bethnal Green.1   Edith's father was Alfred Mildren (StokerGasWorks bur D 1598 Rip) and her mother was Ann Smart (bur D 1598 Rippleside).  Her paternal grandfather was William Mildren and her paternal grandmother is <Unknown>. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Alfred, Walter, Albert, Emily, Ada and Annie.  She was the fourth oldest of the seven children.
