Henry was born about January 1845 in Barking Essex and his christening took place on February 12th, 1845 at St Margaret's  Church Barking.1   Henry's father was Joseph Grout (Blacksmith/Smacks) and his mother was Jane Sarah Dockerill.  His paternal grandfather was Joseph Grout and his paternal grandmother is Elizabeth; his maternal grandparents were John Dockerill and Sarah. He had three brothers and seven sisters, named Joseph, William, George, Jane, Sarah, Elizabeth, Eliza, Julia, Emma and Emily.  He was the third youngest of the eleven children.
