Robert was born on May 20th, 1890 in Ilford Essex.  Robert's father was George William Farren (b Stratford) and his mother was Ann Gilbert.  His paternal grandparents were Timothy Farren (shoemaker - Cordwainer b Colchester) and Elizabeth Bennett (b Ilford); his maternal grandparents are Robert Gilbert (Labourer) and <Unknown>. He had three brothers and six sisters, named George, Timothy, Joseph, Rose, Mary, Elizabeth, Jessie, Phoebe and Alice.  He was the fourth youngest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 84 in 1974 in Redbridge Essex.

Robert and Nellie were married in a religious ceremony on March 12th, 1916 in St Albans the Martyr Albert RdIlford.
