William was born in October 1779 in Barking Essex and his baptism took place on October 22nd, 1779 at St Margaret's  Church Barking.1 2   William's father was William Butterfield (Butcher) and his mother was Martha £50 Skinner.  His paternal grandparents are Butterfield and <Unknown>; his maternal grandparents were Ambrose Skinner (of Longbridge) and Ann Pittman. He had three sisters named Sarah, Ann and Sarah.  He was the second oldest of the four children.  He died at the age of 83 on June 23rd, 1863 in Barking Essex.3 




William's family

William and Mary were married.  They had six sons named Charles, Joseph, George, Henry, John and Alfred.
