Antonio was born on October 30th, 1904.  Antonio's father was Giuseppe "Joseph" Rao and his mother was Santa Gitto.  His paternal grandfather is Antonio "Antonino" Rao and his paternal grandmother was Venera "Teresa" Recupero. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Antonio "Anthony", Giovanni "John", Charles, Teresa "Theresa", Angelina "Angela", Carmela and Rosina "Rose".  He was the second oldest of the eight children.
