1910 obituary notice: Obituary. John Alexander Wise, son of Nancy and Parker Wise, was born on a farm near Napoleon, Ind., Feb. 21, 1848, and died near Locksprings, Ind., Apr. 14, 1910, aged 62 years, 1 month and 24 days, and a lingering illness of a complication of diseases.
He was united in marriage to Rhoda R. Whitmore, August 19, 1873, to which union were born ten children, one of whom preceded him to the better land, and nine children -- five girls and four boys, with a loving wife, two sister and one brother, remain to mourn their loss. All thechildren are present today with the exception of one daughter, who resides in South Dakota, and was unable to come.
At an early age he began teaching in the public schools in Missouri. Upon returning to Ripley county he continued in the profession almost continually for thirty years. He was a great lover of music, having devoted much of his time to the teaching of both instrumental and vocal music. He also composed quite a number of pieces.
When quite a young man he was converted and joined the M. E. church at Otter Creek Chapel, under the pastorate of Rev. S. H. Whitmore, to which faith he remained faithful until death.
Although his life was not faultless, it was full of many noble deeds. He was a loving father, a good neighbor and citizen.
In his last words he expressed his appreciation of his good neighbors who had so faithfully cared for him during his last sickness.
Card of Thanks. We wish to thank all our neighbors and friends for the kindness shown us during the sickness and death of our beloved husband and father. Mrs. J. A. Wise and Family.
