Assuming the Barnett family lore is correct and Clara Jane EVANS was half-Native American (Cherokee?), I suspect Sarah C. is Clara Jane's Native American parent (CMB).

burial note (Earl Evans to CMB 6/06):
Leverett's wife Sarah was Sarah C. Brown and her father was Daniel Brown. They are buried in the Hadder Cemetery between Addison and Arley in Winston County. Sarah has a tombstone but Daniel does not but my uncle showed me where he was buried. I can not locate it now but I have Daniel's wifes name; she must have died in Georgia (Heard County) where they lived before coming to Winston County.

1850 census for Carroll, GA has one Sarah BROWN (exact): (1) Sarah M BROWN 1844 GA in Division 11 (too young), no Sara BROWN (exact). 1850 for Heard, GA has three Sarah BROWN enumerants (exact): (1) 1827 GA in h/hold of David; (2) Sarah BROWN 1791/1800 VA/SC, w/ygr sibs Lucilla, Josephine, Samuel, Lewis H., Mary A.; (3) 1800 SC, all in District 41. (2) and (3) are too old.

Sarah would have been a young girl of about 14 when Indian removal from Georgia began in earnest:

"Under orders from President Jackson, the U.S. Army began enforcement of the Removal Act. Around 3,000 Cherokees were rounded up in the summer of 1838 and loaded onto boats that traveled the Tennessee, Ohio, Mississippi, and Arkansas Rivers into Indian Territory. Many were held in prison camps awaiting their fate. In the winter of 1838-39, 14,000 were marched 1,200 miles through Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, and Arkansas into rugged Indian Territory."

A search of the Native American database at rootsweb.com for a Cherokee Sarah BROWN yields 68 hits; all but 15 have middle initials. Age is not indicated for any of the 15, and in every case the Sarah BROWN is indicated as a parent. The children's names do not correspond to those of Sarah BROWN m. Leverett EVANS. There are duplicate records among the 15.

A search for a Cherokee Sarah EVANS yields 10 hits, all for Sarah M EVANS, age 12.

Not all persons of Cherokee ancestry registered, and lore has it that Anglo husbands often discouraged women from applying for inclusion on the rolls.
