My grandfather was Charles Gilbert Brewster, 1892-1968, born Philadelphia, died Glassboro, NJ, married Emily Magee 4 Oct 1920. They had 2 children, one son and one daughter, and I'm descended from their daughter Elizabeth, who is my mother. Charles's father's name was definitely Hugh, but Charles and his father were estranged and had very little contact after Charles left home. Hugh married Elizabeth Irene Maginniss 24 Nov 1887, Philadelphia. I have an original of their wedding reception announcement. I believe it was a small ceremony at the home of the bride's parents. Hugh and Elizabeth only had one child, Charles Gilbert Brewster, who was my grandfather. As I said, they did not have a good relationship and were estranged. The family story is that Hugh was a drinker, and Elizabeth went to Atlantic City when their son was quite young, maybe around 1898 or so. Elizabeth worked as a laundress at the Hotel Dennis. Apparently they never divorced and may have even lived together on and off because I found them both listed at the same address in a 1909 Atlantic City Directory. Hugh is listed as an electrician. Elizabeth paid for his burial,Old Cathedral Cemetery in Phila. My mother said her father never really spoke about his family because of the separation, etc. He always had a lot of resentment of his father, Hugh, because he said he came from a "broken home". He did say that his father had a brother who "went out west." I did see the name of Nancy Creelman on Ancestry and wondered if it was correct. My mother said she never heard mention of that name.
