David's father was Robert Wyllie and his mother was Janet Law Scott. His paternal grandparents were David Wyllie and Janet Dick. He had four brothers and a sister, named Thomas, Robert, William, James and Agnes. He was the oldest of the six children. He died as a war casualty at the age of 29 on April 24th, 1917 in France.
