Michel was born in 1781.  Michel's father was Peder Jensen Sinding and his mother was Maren Michelsdatter.  His paternal grandparents were Jens Nielsen Sinding and Mette Christensdatter. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Niels, Jens, Mette, Gertrud and Anne.  He was the second youngest of the six children.
