Margaret's father was David Savage and her mother was Elizabeth Smith.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Savage and Elspeth Bone. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Peter, Hugh, Savage, Eppie and Elspeth.  Eppie and Margaret were twins.
