Margaret's father was Thomas Savage and her mother was Elspeth Bone.  Her maternal grandparents were David Bone and Margaret Smith. She had two brothers named Hugh and David.  She was the youngest of the three children.  She died at the age of 41 in 1877 in Tarbolton.
