Marion's father was John Marshall and her mother was Elizabeth Tinning. Her paternal grandparents were Richard Marshall and Marion Taylor. She had four brothers and a sister, named Richard, William, Ebenezer, John and Agnes. She was the third oldest of the six children. She died at the age of 22 in 1905 in Dumfriesshire.
