Mary's father was John Lees and her mother was Margaret Flinn.  Her maternal grandparents were William Flinn and Mary Carson. She had five brothers and a sister, named William, Robert, John, Robert, Thomas and Margaret.  She was the third youngest of the seven children.  She died at the age of 66 in 1929 in Glasgow.
