Joan's father was John Knox and her mother was Margaret Stevenson.  Her maternal grandparents were William Stevenson and Margaret Patrick. She had two sisters named Margaret and Margaret.  Joan and Margaret were twins. She had a half-sister named Ann.  She died at the age of 48 in 1889 in Auchterarder.
