Jessie's father was George Flemington Gillon and her mother was Maggie (Maggie) Marshall Wood. Her maternal grandparents were James Wood and Margaret Roberts. She had a brother and two sisters, named George, Maggie and Marion. She was the second youngest of the four children. She died at the age of 69 in 1979 in Bathgate.
