Margaret's father was Archibald Galloway and her mother was Jeannie Leishman. Her paternal grandparents were Archibald Galloway and Janet Galbraith. She had three brothers named Andrew, James and Archibald. She was the youngest of the four children. She died at the age of 76 in 1978 in West Kilbride.
