Alexander's father was John Fraser and his mother was Sarah Templeton. His paternal grandparents were Alexander Fraser and Helen Hamilton. He had two brothers and five sisters, named John, George, Maggie, Ellen, Sarah, Bella and Agnes. He was the third oldest of the eight children. He died at the age of 52 in 1923 in Paisley.
