Andrew was born in January 1749 in Kilsyth and his baptism took place there on January 15th, 1749.¹

Andrew's father was Andrew Findlay and his mother was Margaret Semple.  His maternal grandparents were William Semple and Janet Brown. He had a brother and four sisters, named William, Janet, Margaret, Agnes and Agnes.  He was the third oldest of the six children.  He died after 1790.²
