Barbara's father was William Drummond and her mother was Jane Lodge. Her paternal grandparents were William Drummond and Christian Campbell. She had five brothers named William, John, James, George and George. She was the second oldest of the six children. She died at the age of 38 in 1897 in Kelvin.
