Robert's father was John Wilson Crawford and his mother was Jessie (Jennie) Charlotte Rennie. His maternal grandparents were James Rennie and Catherine (Kate) Stobo. He had two brothers and a sister, named John, James and Jessie. He was the youngest of the four children. He had two half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Peter, George, Margaret and Ann Mary. He died as a war casualty, killed in action, at the age of 22 on May 17th, 1915 in France. He was buried in France.²
