Gregor's father was William Bone and his mother was Margaret Scott. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Bone and Janet Mcgrigor. He had five brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, William, Gavin, Daniel, David, Mary and Margaret. He was the second youngest of the eight children. He died at the age of 67 in 1952 in Glasgow.
