Mary was born about 1650 in Yorksham, Devonshire, England.  Mary's father was Robert Zane Sr and her mother was Wilmot.  Her paternal grandparents were Simon Zane and Marye Hunt. She had three brothers and a sister, named Robert, John, Ellis and Hezicaias.  She was the third oldest of the five children.
