Andrew was born in 1742 in Somerset County, Maryland.  Andrew's father was Abraham Workman and his mother was Annetje Smith.  His paternal grandparents were Jan Derkson Derikson Woertman and Anna Maria   Andries\Andriessen Andrews; his maternal grandparents are Able Smith and Tryntje Wybrantz. He had eight brothers named Benjamin, Samuel, Joseph, Stephen, Jacob, Abraham, George and William.  He was the sixth oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 70 in 1812 in Mt. Savage, MD.
