Martin was born on April 15th, 1696 in Calvert County, Maryland.  Martin's father was Richard Wells (Ancient Planter) and his mother is Mary Martin.  His maternal grandparents were Thomas Martin and Brasseur. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, Richard, Mark, Sarah and Clare.  He was the youngest of the six children.  He died at the age of 44 in 1740.
