William was born in 1761.  William's father is Thomas Wallen and his mother is Mary Cox.  His paternal grandfather was Elisha Walling Wallen and his paternal grandmother is Mary Blevins; his maternal grandparents are William Cox and <Unknown>. He had four brothers named Stephen, Elisha, Thomas and Joseph.  He is the third oldest of the five children.
