    Are we looking at the same family or closely related branches? I'm particularly looking at Alexander Vance and Jean/Jane Matthews.
    
    1 John Vance, born in Coagh, Ireland. He married Elizabeth Williamson-Williams.
    Children of John Vance and Elizabeth Williamson-Williams:
    i. James Vance, born 1692; died Bef. 02 March 1762 in Frederick Co., Virginia; married Mary Hogue

    2. James Vance, born 1692; died Bef. 02 March 1762 in Frederick Co., Virginia. He was the son of John Vance and Elizabeth Williamson-Williams. He married Mary Hogue.
    
    Notes for James Vance: Date that John Vance came to America is uncertain. He and brother, Andrew, may have come to Philadelphia about 1735. James first appears in records in Philadelphia 15 June 1742: Land survey on Opequon Creek will made 21 Jan 1762; proved 2 Mar 1762 Frederick Co., VA Bk 3, p.30 before his death, John gave land to youngest son, Samuel, on Cedar Creek in both Shenandoah and Frederick counties, VA

    i.       John Vance, born 1726 in Ireland; died 1823 in Wolf Hill, Abingdon, Washington Co., Virginia; married Jean Wilson in Culpepper Co., Virginia.
    ii.       Esther Vance, born 1728; married George Harrison; died 1786.
    iii.       Margaret Vance, born 1730; married John Worth.
    iv.       Colonel Samuel Vance, born 1734; died 1807 in Mountain Grove, Bath Co., Virginia; married Sarah Boyd.
    
    
    
    3. John Vance, born 1726 in Ireland; died 1823 in Wolf Hill, Abingdon, Washington Co., Virginia. He was the son of James Vance and Mary Hogue. He married Jean Wilson in Culpepper Co., Virginia. She was the daughter of James Wilson.
    
    Notes for John Vance: Came to America with parents in 1742 to Dunmore County, VA. later renamed Shenandoah County. He sold Shenandoah County land 1769 and with brother, Samuel, moved to Augusta County, VA. In 1771 moved to Washington Co., VA and bought land at Abingdon 1773: Wolf Hill Tract

    5 Bryant Trent born Bef. 1765 in Virginia. He was the son of William Williamson Trent and Nancy Bryant. He married Ruth Vance 10 June 1793 in Green Co., Kentucky.
          
    Ruth Vance, born Abt. 1777. She was the daughter of Alexander Vance and Jean Matthews.
