Richard was born about 1716 in Caroline Co., Virginia.  Richard's father was Richard Tankersley and his mother was Margaret Rowland.  His paternal grandparents were Reuben Tankersley and Sarah Ann Beverley. He had a sister named Sarah Margaret.  He was the younger of the two children.  He died about 1748 in Caroline Co., Virginia.
