Overton was born about 1783.  Overton's father was Bland Shiflett and his mother is Vina Brock (POSS).  His paternal grandparents are John Shiflett and Susannah Davis (POSS). He has three brothers and a sister, named Bland, Absalom, John Brock and Anna.  He is the youngest of the five children.
