Powtianan was born about 1562 in Werowocomoco, VA.  Powtianan's father is Chief Shawano (Shawnee) and his mother is Scent Flower Stream.  His maternal grandparents are Dashing Stream and Scent Flower. He had five brothers named Opachisco, Ioutegaoan, Kecatough, Opitchapan and Wahunsonacock. He had ten half-brothers and a half-sister, named Opechankeno Oppechancino, Weroance, Winsonocock, Wahunsonacock, Mangopeesomon, Itoyatin, Apachano, Kekataugh, Winsonocock, Japasaw Japassus I-Opassus and Cleopatra.  He died in 1618 in VA.
