Jan was born on February 10th, 1670 in Flatlands, Kings Co, Long Island, New York.  Jan's father is Roeloff Martense Schenck and his mother is Neeltje Covenhoven.  His paternal grandparents are Mårten Van Nydeck Schenck and Maria Mararetha De Brockhurst; his maternal grandfather is Garrett Wolferssen Van Covenhoven and his maternal grandmother was Altje Cool. He had a brother and a sister, named Garrett and Jannetje Roelofse. He had four half-sisters named Neeltje, Sarah, Sarah and Margaretta.  He died at the age of 82 on January 30th, 1753 in Monmouth NJ.
