Samuel Montgomery was born about 1822.  Samuel Montgomery's father is Lt David Rice and his mother is Jane Rowe Doak.  His paternal grandparents are Col Benjamin Rice and Catherine Holt. He has a brother and two sisters, named John Holt, Ann Nancy Morton and Elizabeth. He has seven half-brothers and four half-sisters, named George Duffield, Benjamin Walker, William Walker, David, Andrew H, Joshua, Benjamin Brewer, Mary Hannah, Catherine T, Sarah Sally and Margaret Jane.
