Ruth was born in Fairfield, Illinois at the "Fogel House". This was the hotel that her grandfather Rollie Marshall owned and most of his children and their husbands were living there at this time due to economic hard times in the country, Everyone pitched in to make the hotel work. Her father "Dusty"soon bought a tent skating rink and they started traveling up and down the Frisco R.R. Ruth could do a toe stand when she was 4 years old. The first world war brought an end to the skating rink since all the boys had gone to war. She lived in West Plains, Missouri, Joplin, Missouri, Sedalia, Missouri and finally they settled in Columbia, Missouri where she finished school at Hickman H.S. in 1933. Her sister Leah had died just a few years earlier in 1930 at age 21 and her death had a traumatic effect on Ruth's life. Shortly after graduating from high school she met and married George W. Crow and started a family. This marriage was to only last 25 years as Ruth died at the young age of 45 of peritonitis as a result of a botched Hysterectomy a few years earlier. Ruth was a great mom and well liked by all who ever met her. One of her favorite things in life were flowers and she was the first president of the Moberly, Missouri Garden Club. She is deeply missed by this writer...her son.
