"Lilly" was born on the Minter/ Marshall farm near Philadelphia, Missouri. She spent her young years here and attended the Little Union School where her father Rollie had been a teacher in earlier years. By her high school years the had moved to Monroe City, Missouri and she graduated from there in 1906. Shortly after this her father decided to move to West Plaines, Missouri to run a hotel there. This is where "Lilly" met "Dusty" and the rest is history. I learned many things from her as my mother relyed heavily on her for help in raising me.
The things that stand out most in my mind is the appreciation of such things as the arts in all aspects and flowers. I looked after her for the last 12 years of her life which lasted till just just a few months short of 100 years. She and I spent a great deal of time together when I was growing up and had our ups and downs. However I must say I learned many good lessons from her...and truly miss the good times we had together. She was very active in the Missouri United Methodist Church of Columbia and was President of the local Garden Club for 6 straight years. The loss of both of her children in her life time took it's toll on her as a mother.
